Sire Summary
As a stud bull represents 50% of a breeding herd program, very careful consideration of the genetic merit and potential of a bull together with the manner in which this will support breeding objectives is warranted. Thorough visual evaluation of a bull for functional efficiency and correctness together with careful consideration of BLUP breeding values is highly recommended for selecting the correct bull.
The Sire Summary file available below includes both a description and definition of important BLUP values which are measured and reported for all registered Charolais bulls, together with graphs demonstrating trends and measurement norms for the indicators concerned.
Also included is a schedule of BLUP values for Charolais bulls currently being used across South Africa. The schedule may serve as an important guideline for BLUP profiles to aim for, select or even identify a preferred herd sire.
